Four crystal spheres, set into a solid monolithic crystal block. The bond between sphere and base is pigmented, a deliberate decision that reveals a shift of colour where the two surfaces meet, like a watercolour bleeding at its edge. Lit with four candles, the light moves through the crystal in a way that changes constantly over the course of an evening.
- Measures: 16 x 14 x 20 - Weight: 2500 g - Hand-cut solid crystal glass. Holds 4 standard taper candles - Care: Wipe clean with a soft cloth. Natural variation including small bubbles may occur - Keep out of direct sunlight - due to the magnifying effect of the glass ball it could create a fire hazard
Fundamental was founded in Berlin by two architects who kept the discipline of building. They began making small objects governed by the same rules as large structures: a lattice that carries weight, a curve that returns to itself, a surface that changes with the light. Repetition, symmetry, and growth are folded into steel and crystal in Berlin. Everything they make is small architecture.
