WORDS BY REBECCA RHYS-EVANS
Exclusive to KOIBIRD, cult Italian label Cormio is rebranding knitwear as we know it. After graduating from the prestigious fashion design programme at the Royal Academy of Antwerp in 2013, founder Jezabelle Cormio worked on mens and eveningwear capsule collections before founding her namesake label in 2019.
Cutesy but cool, striking but sweet, Cormio bridges the gap between Little House on the Prairie and 90s grunge. Loved by the likes of Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodriguez, and a firm favourite at KOIBIRD HQ, it’s only a matter of time before you see Cormio on the backs of the fashion elite — just remember, you heard it here first.
Jezabelle’s Italian upbringing (she was born in New York and raised in Rome) can clearly be seen in the luxurious quality of her garments. Created with mohair and merino wool, Cormio’s series of cardigans and jumpers are a playful take on your conventional ‘granny knit’. Its high-sitting rollnecks and romantic hand-embroidered florals have become a signature for the brand – forget Hot Girl Summer, Sad Victorian Girl Autumn is officially in town.
One of the brand’s defining features is its exquisite colour palette, a plethora of pastel pinks, baby blues and lilacs set against canary yellows, primary reds and black. In keeping with the trend of cottagecore (which never seems to dissipate) there’s puffed-shoulders, ruffled-edging and a lot of crochet. Despite all this, Cormio has a timeless appeal – and we love it.
